Priscianus, Ars grammatica, book VIII, fragment on vellum, second half of the 12th century.
151 x 199 mm. The width of the column is 65 mm.
Written in Latin in a Carolingian minuscule, some words in Greek. One column. A few rubrications in red.
Vellum backstrips from a 14th century manuscript. Quire signatur „XVII“ at the end of the MS: the fragment is the last leaf of the 17th gathering.
The recto with spots and rubbing. Some words hidden behind the four vellum strips of the binding.
Unreadable passages are in [ ].
Greek: no use of accents etc.; for ω mostly ο is used; the Greek υ written as Latin y or as ι, for example τοy or τοι instead of του.
On the scribe of the 9th century Codex Halberstadiensis Hertzberg (1841) writes: Graeca certe non attigisset quae sanguine viperino cautus ille vitat. This seems to be the case here also.
Used as a bookbinding for: Pyrkmair, Hilarius. Ramus. De causis affectionum et proprietatum quarunda singularium cum in homine, tum in animantibus quibusdam alijs. – Munich, Adam Berg, 1575. VD16 P 5425; usct 689798 (4 copies only, all in German libraries – a dialogue between Ramus and Talon, and an extremely rare book.
