Folio (293 x 195 mm). *2 A-S8: 146 leaves. A1 with large ornamental headpiece and initial M printed in red; both are close imitations from the Ammonius of the Kallierges/Vlastos shop, 1499-1500. Zanetti’s putto on title and last leaf, surrounded by the motto: οὐ μετὰ πολὺ σὺν θεῷ ἀνὴρ ἐσόμενος ἀρχὴ τὸ ἥμισυ παντός. The putto is said to be after Titian. Title-page with repair to lower blank margin where an ownership entry was deleted; short closed marginal tear at foot of M3. Marginal waterstains to first two leaves.
17th century vellum; manuscript title to spine and shelfmark on spine, both written by Fletcher, see below.
Provenance: „Fletcher“ on rear paste-down, i. e. Andrew Fletcher of Saltoun (1655-1716), Scottish writer, politician and owner of the finest private library in Scotland. This book is not listed in P. Willems, Bibliotheca Fletcheriana: or, the extraordinary library of … Wassenaar 1999. Peter Willems gives a reference to books of Joh. Philoponos, but could not trace Fletcher’s copies.
