Ἅπαντα τὰ σωζόμενα. Opera quae exstant omnia [… Graece & Lat.].

Geneva, Henri Estienne, 1578

Folio (391 x 250 mm).

3 volumes in 2: Vol. I: (18) leaves, 542 p., (1) blank leaf. Vol. III: (4) leaves, 416, 139 p. Vol. II: (4) leaves, (1) blank leaf, 992 p. As often vol. 1 and 3 are bound together.

An extremely wide-margined copy with many deckle edges – the outer margin is 65 mm, the upper 32 mm, the lower 57 mm. Ruled in light brown ink throughout.

Faint staining to the outer margins of a number of leaves. New endpapers. Wormhole in vol. I to page 85, in vol. III in the lower blank margin from p. 279 to 740, in vol. II in the outer blank margin. Tear in blank margin of vol. I, p. 521, in vol. III p. 99 and 421. A few paper restorations in the blank margin at the end of volume II.

Contemporary brown calf, double gilt filet and gilt centrepiece on all covers; some spots and scratches.

Provenance: Ex libris edmundi le mulier apud mandubios patroni ann. 1658 mensis julii die 20. on title of volume II. (The Mandubii, mentioned by Caesar and Strabo only, were a small Gallic tribe dwelling in and around their chief town Alesia, in modern Côte-d’Or. They dissapeared from the scene after battled by Caesar.)

At the lower margin a purchase note in a late 16th century hand.: Empt.[us] cum praeced[ente] volum[ine]. 45 lt [= livre Tournois][???]. The note shows that the buyer bought a bound copy, not unbound sheets.
