First edition, second issue: sheets of the 1540 edition with new title-page, conjugate leaf a8, and colophon-leaf; still the best edition, reprinted in 1962.
First two leaves with little tears in outer blank margin.
Contemporary blindstamped pigskin over wooden boards, lacking clasps: panel-stamps of Justitia on front and Lucretia on back cover, surrounded by two rolls (Luther, Erasmus, Huss, Melanchthon and Fortiudo, Caritas, Fides). Upper joint splitted in upper first compartment.
Provenance: ex libris Sixtus Henricpetri on lower margin of title-page. Sixtus Henricpetri (1547-1579), son of Henricus Petri, and printer himself. Worked in the printing shop of his father, and printed books under his own name and with his device between 1567 and 1572. Exlibris Gottlieb Friedlaender (1805-1878, German librarian and scholar) on paste-down.
