Binding / Legatura archivistica

Livius, Delle historie romane … — Venice 1575

This type of binding usually covers archive material of Italian courts, notary’s offices, administrations etc. In our case it contains a printed book, what is unusual: Titus Livius, Delle historie romane, già tradotta da Iacopo Nardi … Giunta, Venice, 1575. [sold]

The size of the binding is 345 x 230 mm. Brown blindstamped calf over pasteboard.

Titelpage mounted. A short piece of the central leather strap, which is conducted around the complete book and ending in a clasp, is missing. This central leather strap and four more are fixed to the covers by thin vellum stripes, which also are a decoration of these stripes. The bookblock is fixed by 6 twisted vellum cords through the five leather straps to the binding.
