The otherwise probably unknown Nicolaus mentioned on the title-page seems to have been a friend of Marcus Eremita. His text printed here is an Ἀντίγραφον to Marcus‘ treatise Νηπτικά. Marcus Eremita is said to have been superior at a laura at Ancyra who in his later years became an eremite near St. Sabba. Others identify him as an Egyptian monk. The text of Hesychius Presbyter who lived in the 5th century like Marcus is a λόγος of moral maxims to an unidentified Theodoulos: πρὸς Θεόδουλον, λόγος ψυχωφελής περὶ νήψεως καὶ ἀρετῆς κεφαλαιώδης, τὰ λεγόμενα ἀντιῤῥητικὰ καὶ εὐκτικά.
