Editio princeps

Folio. (310 x 207 mm).

Greek ed.: (4) ff. (last blank), 543 pp., (1) p. printer’s mark.

Latin ed.: (6) ff., 430, (14) pp., (1) p. printer’s mark.

Binding: Contemporary blind-stamped pigskin over wooden boards, two clasps. The centre-piece on both covers shows the Trinity with the surrounding text „Also hat Got die Welt geliebet …“, and the bookbinder’s initials H W (Haebler I 487 no. III). Both plate and rolles are hard to identify. Dated 1591 below centre-piece of upper cover. It seems to have been a chained binding; two rusty holes in the lower edge of the front cover may show where the chain was fixed. The volume is bound a little too tightly. – Hoffmann II 26 & 28; Adams E-250 & E-254.
